Manchester United wins Community Shield

New season, young players, same old story! Manchester United beating Manchester City. This derby is always interesting and never short of excitement. Remember Michael Owens’s late winner back in 2009? Wayne Rooney’s jaw dropping winner in 2010/2011 season? And now, Nani’s twinkled toe eye popper!

Manchester City was in the driver’s seat for a famed victory over their arch rivals, after Joleon Lescott’s header made it 1-0 and Edin Dzeko’s belter made it 2-0. But Alex Ferguson had seen the bus route and it didn’t stop at the blue half of Manchester. Half time introduction of some young blood, Tom Cleverly, Phil Jones and Jonathan Evans, sparked United to life.

Within six minutes of the restart, United had one, with Smalling finishing Young’s free kick. Then came the eye popper, United trio (Rooney, Nani and Cleverley) craved opened City’s backline with a series devastating passes for Nani to delicately chip the ball over the advancing Hart.

The game perfectly poised and seems to be heading for penalties when Nani decided to stop the bus. Kompany’s misjudgments allowed Nani to capitalize, rounding Hart, scoring and fatally wounding City.
